Welfare Society for the Deaf and Retarded was established on the 1st January, 1988 with the object to run two separate units viz;
a) Institute for Hearing impaired and
b) Therapeutic clinic for Mentally Retarded children.

The Society have been able to run a Badhir Bidya Bhaban (Estd.on 09.04.1988) for imparting education to our hearing impaired students where we are imparting Basic literacy starting from class I to class VIII along with elementary vocational Training. We have also arranged for Advanced Vocational Training for Adult Hearing for ultimate Economic Rehabilitation for hearing impaired students.

VSEI has been assisting them with funding for educational and training aids for teaching hearing impaired persons. Recently VSEI is focusing on the vocational trainng program and computer education. VSEI Amherst Chapter is supporting this project for last 10 years.

But in spite of best efforts to paucity of fund we have so far unable to start our another unit for mentally retarded children. Our Institution is the only one of its kind in the District of Hooghly, West Bengal, India where students are able to learnt through oral method by means of multisensory approach. Many of our students both Boys and Girls after completion of Vocational Training are able to work in different Govt. and Non-Govt. Organisations. Our society have been running since its inception with the generous help of our Honorable Members and Life Members who are residing in India and abroad. We also receive the donations from various Trusts and Agencies and Philanthropic Organizations in India and abroad. As the students are coming from the very poor families, we provide education and Training without any Tuition Fees. We receive sponsorship from the benevolent persons and/or Organization for our poor and needy students by remitting Rs. 2000 (Rupees Two thousands) or $ 50 (Fifty Dollars) per month as donations to the Society. The Society expects patronage from the kind hearted persons / organizations for our smooth running and proper existence.
